Few things signal the arrival of spring better than the inescapable urge to purge the excess accumulation over the past year. For many, spring cleaning is a task that brings with it a certain amount of dread and procrastination, but that doesn't have to be the case. With a few simple adjustments to your approach, you can make this year's clean-out a chance to declutter and destress at the same time. Here are goodMRKT's best tips to help you tackle your spring cleaning tasks!

 1. PLAN IT OUT

One of the quickest ways to get overwhelmed, and inevitably give up, is trying to do everything all at once. That way always leads to burnout and stress. This year, take time to plan out what you want to accomplish. Think about the spaces in your home you wish brought you more happiness and imagine what needs to change to make that happen. If it helps, you can find cleaning inspiration all over TikTok, Instagram, Pinterest, and more, just make sure to keep it a direction instead of a distraction!

2. LET YOURSELF BE ENTERTAINED

Who says you can’t have fun while cleaning? Put one of your favorite shows or movies on in the background to help keep your mood elevated while cleaning up. If you prefer music, pick your favorite album or cleaning playlist to stay in the zone. Better yet, catch up on your favorite podcast (can we suggest goodMRKT Live?) and you can knock out two items on that to-do list!

3. GO ROOM BY ROOM

This tip is essential: stay in the room you are cleaning! If something belongs in another room, put it by the door and take it with you when you’re finished. Need something from the other room? Wait until the very end to grab it. Moving back and forth between rooms is not only makes the process take longer but also invites distractions from every other part of the house. Do your best to stay focused and stay in the moment by staying in the room you are in.

4. CLEAN UP THE CLUTTER

Clutter is the enemy of every clean space. Everyone has a different definition of what “clutter” is (one person’s trash is another one's treasure!) so it may help to define what you consider clutter before you begin. But once you do, make sure you’re sticking to your plan. Keeping loose papers filed away, making sure towels and linens are in the proper place, finding the spot for those kitchen appliances, the items that end up just getting moved around all need to be accounted for. A great way to approach this is to use the mantra, “a place for everything and everything in its place.”

5. MAKE IT WORTH IT

Yes, spring cleaning is a chore, but that doesn’t mean you have to dislike it. Rewarding yourself for a job well done helps keep you motivated to see it through. Find something special you can do for yourself, whether it’s much-needed me-time with Musee or a cheat day with Xocolatl, knowing something good is on the other side makes everything better.

BONUS TIP: SPRING RENEWAL!

Use your spring cleaning as a time to renew the spaces around you. New scents, new decorations, new colors, let this be a time to reawaken your home and bring fresh inspiration to your daily life!
